Safety Tips: How To Stay Safe And Protected At A Big Event

Big events in big cities often bring out a number of unsavory characters who prey on unsuspecting victims. After all, the prospect of a large crowd can be an easy way to blend into the background and slip away from the police when you’ve committed a crime.

How do you stay safe at these types of gatherings?

Not everyone has enjoyed a fun-filled event without having to worry about safety. In recent years, events have been the targets of extremists and even just bored people looking for a thrill. There are certain items that can protect you that are legal to carry like a lighter or a pen, but in more extreme cases and for guaranteed safety, there is also a bulletproof vest that you will need. While you shouldn’t let paranoia rule your life, knowing how to stay safe at big events is a good idea.

Safety tips for staying protected

Here are some important things to keep in mind if you want to make sure your fun doesn’t turn dangerous.

1. Arrive at the event early / stay until the end

If you arrive at an event right before it starts, there’s a chance that there won’t be enough security to monitor all the people present. As mentioned above, big events are often prime targets for criminals looking for easy targets. By staying until the end of an event, you’ll also ensure that most of the crowd has already dispersed, and you’re not going up against a horde of people when trying to get back to your car or home.

2. Don’t wear expensive clothing or jewelry

While this may seem like common sense, many people don’t think about how something as simple as wearing designer clothes can attract unwanted attention from thieves looking for their next victim. So unless you want to make yourself a target, it’s recommended that you avoid wearing anything too flashy. This is especially important when going to a concert since there are thousands of people there, but it is a rule for every type of crowded event.

3. Keep an eye on your belongings

It can be hard to focus on safety when you’re faced with the excitement of a big event and there are so many things going around you at once. This is why it’s extremely important not to get carried away at the moment and remain vigilant over your belongings throughout the event. By taking care of them before, during, and after an event, you can rest assured knowing that they’ll be where they should be without any issues.

4. Avoid isolated areas or areas with bad visibility

If there is a place near where you’re standing where someone could easily attack without being seen, this is an area where you should steer clear. You can find these areas near poorly lit or isolated parts of the event, including behind structures, in alleys, and along paths that don’t have much foot traffic. It’s important to be aware of your surroundings when you’re at big events because if you notice anything suspicious it could be a matter of seconds until something happens.

5. Know where to go if something happens

Before attending an event, you should be aware of how you’ll get first aid or where police are stationed in case of emergencies. You can find this information on the event’s website or on signage throughout the area so that if something does happen, you know exactly where to go for help. By being prepared ahead of time, you can reduce injuries and save yourself some stress simultaneously.

6. Keep your friends close by

When it comes to safety at big events, there’s no better way to ensure that nothing happens than being surrounded by people who have your back! If possible try to stick with some friends when going out rather than heading off alone because having a group of familiar faces around can deter criminals who are hoping to take advantage of the crowds.

7. Bring your cell phone

If you remember only one thing on this list, make sure it’s to bring your cell phone with you ANY time you go out! You never know when an unfortunate situation could arise that requires having someone to call for help or if something happens, and you need to use your phone immediately to get in touch with people. This is especially important at big events because not only should you have other people close by, but also security personnel who can assist or provide direction if necessary.

You can always find more tips and try to follow them as best as you can.

You should always be cautious when attending a big event because it’s easy for criminals to spot victims in large crowds. But by taking these simple steps, you can remain safe and empowered to have fun without worrying too much about your surroundings.
