Odoland Portable LED Camping Lantern with Ceiling Fan - Hurricane Emergency Survival Kit
  • Why you need this great camping gear: Spending a night outdoors is something everyone should experience. So you want something to help you see at night. A lantern is super useful for camping so you...
The Odoland Portable Fan & LED Lantern offers double the functionality. Besides its fan functionality, the design can also be used as a handy camping lantern. This means you can enjoy a cool breeze during your camping adventures, but also profit from the additional benefit of after-dark illumination. Ideal for some nighttime reading in your tent! A big bonus is that the fan and lantern functions can be used separately, or simultaneously, allowing you to alternate between or combine them when desired.

The Odoland Portable Fan & LED Lantern weighs approximately 1.8 pounds and measures around 20.5 inches in diameter. The steel fan blades are 4 inches across and are constructed with high-grade materials to promote durability. It’s not the lightest fan, but for its 2-in-1 versatility, we think it’s still lightweight enough to carry around in a backpack. When not in use, you can also collapse the top part of the portable fan, folding it to a size of 6.25 x 6.25 x 7.25 inches.

We like that the Odoland Portable Fan & LED Lantern can be used as both a freestanding fan or as a hanging fan. The design comes with a simple hook to attach it to the ceiling of your tent, RV, or cabin, whilst the flat base also makes it works as a freestanding unit. The lantern part of this compact fan includes 18 individual, low-powered LED bulbs that provide bright illumination.

Up to 50 hours of airflow

The Odoland Portable Fan & LED Lantern is a battery-operated design that requires 2 D-cell batteries to work its cooling/lighting magic. If you only use the fan function, the batteries will last approximately 30 to 50 hours, depending on the fan mode (low speed vs high speed). When you only use the light function, the batteries last up to 37 hours. The 2-in-1 functionality does drastically reduce the battery life to approximately 16 hours when you use the lights and fan simultaneously.

This handy 2-in-1 fan & lantern is a highly-rated favorite amongst campers and backpackers. Reviewers on Amazon give this camping tent fan feature a big thumbs up for its excellent air circulation, whilst others love the brightness of the LED fan light function. Plus, at the price listed, reviewers agree it’s simply an outstanding deal in camping gear, combining two camping essentials (a fan and lantern) in one, sleek design.

There are some cons. Firstly, the battery life is a bit limited, so you will need to pack spare D-batteries if you’re planning a multi-day hike. Some reviewers also mention that though the top part of the lantern is collapsible, the product still has slightly awkward packing dimensions, due to the rounded fan surface. That makes it more challenging to comfortably slot the fan into smaller daypacks. That said, with this fan, you also save on space because you don’t have to pack a separate lantern or flashlight. Making it a worthwhile gadget for car campers and backpackers alike!

Pro

  • 2-in-1 functionality
  • Multiple speed settings
  • LED Lantern function
  • Budget-friendly
  • Mounted or freestanding usage
  • Attached hook for easy hanging

Con

  • Not a rechargeable fan (uses 2 D-cell batteries)
  • Battery drains quickly when light and fan are used simultaneously
  • Slightly awkward packing dimensions

OPOLAR Portable Rechargeable Mini Fan

OPOLAR Mini Portable Battery Operated Desk Fan with 3-13 Battery Life, Rechargeable & USB powered Handheld Fan for Desk Beach Camping, 3 Speeds, Strong Airflow, Internal Blue Light& Side Flash Light

OPOLAR Mini Portable Battery Operated Desk Fan with 3-13 Battery Life, Rechargeable & USB powered Handheld Fan for Desk Beach Camping, 3 Speeds, Strong Airflow, Internal Blue Light& Side Flash Light
  • 🍉【POWERFUL WIND AND QUIETNESS】 The maximum rotating speed of the fan is 3200 rpm which is enough for personal use to keep you cool. Low and medium settings are decent and super quiet which...
The OPOLAR Portable Rechargeable Mini Fan is a high-quality design that offers multiple power supply options. This hybrid style fan can operate on either a rechargeable Li-ion battery (included), via USB-cable, or via a direct power supply using a wall adapter. This makes it extra versatile. Charge it via USB-cable before a camping trip, and simply switch to regular Li-ion batteries when it is drained. The device is compact enough to also be used as a handheld fan, or can even be used as a small desk fan by simply connecting it to the USB-port on your computer.

Do note that the OPOLAR Portable Rechargeable Mini Fan may be a bit too compact for family campers and larger groups. Measuring just 4.1 x 5.9 x 1.6 inches it is only slightly bigger than a smartphone. If you’re looking for a heavy-duty fan for a large tent: this is not the product for you. However, for backpackers and hikers, this little gem may be the perfect fit. Not only is it super-compact, but the entire design weighs just 7 oz. Making it by far the most lightweight option on this list.

Slightly limited battery life

The OPOLAR Portable Rechargeable Mini Fan has 3 to 13 hours running time per full charge, depending on the intensity used. Though it’s small, the maximum rotating speed of the fan is still an impressive 3200 rpm. You also have the choice to use it on medium or low-speed settings for a less intense breeze. With a maximum noise output of approximately 35dB, it’s not super-quiet, and some reviews mention it can ‘rattle’ a bit. Meaning that you’re looking for a whisper-quiet device, this may be too noisy for you. That said, a decibel level 35dB is not that much and comparable to the noise level of a library, so we think most campers won’t have an issue with this.

Other perks are that the OPOLAR Portable Rechargeable Mini Fan’s frame can be adjusted up and down a full 360 degrees, allowing you to quickly control airflow in every direction. The camping fan also comes with blue internal LED lights, and an additional bright light on the side to act as a mini torch in the darkness.

Pros

  • Can be used via USB or power outlet
  • Can also be used on rechargeable battery (included)
  • Ultralight (7oz)
  • Super compact
  • The frame can be adjusted 360 degrees
  • Quick recharging in only 2 hours

Cons

  • Reported as a bit noisy
  • Battery life on a single charge a bit limited
  • Not suited for larger tents
  • Only works as a freestanding or handheld unit

O2COOL Treva Battery Operated Fan with Adapter

O2COOL Treva NEW 10' Battery Operated Fan with Adapter, Graphite
1,036 Reviews
O2COOL Treva Battery Operated Fan with Adapter is another high-quality hybrid-powered fan. You have two power options. You can operate the fan on battery power or electric power, ideal for any kind of camping scenario. If you don’t have access to a power supply, simply insert 6 D-cell batteries and voila: you’re ready to enjoy the breeze. If you’re staying at a fixed campsite with an electric power supply, or have brought your generator, simply hook the fan up via the AC-adapter to save on battery life and avoid quick replacement of the d-batteries.

The O2COOL Treva Battery Operated Fan measures 10 inches in diameter and is made of high-quality materials such as durable ABS-plastic. The top part of the camping fan is collapsible for compact storage. The design is extra portable thanks to a built-in carrying handle, in case you want to move it on the spot. A downside is that this unit is freestanding use only, and you cannot mount it to the ceiling of a tent. And at 2.55 pounds, it’s relatively heavy for backpackers.

The Treva O2Cool Portable Fan comes with 2 speed settings: low and high. We would have preferred a medium fan speed as well, but 2 options should be sufficient for most campers. The design is mounted on a horseshoe-shaped base and allows you to tilt the fan area for directional airflow. The run time of the fan is approximately 8 hours on the high setting and multiple days with occasional use on the low setting. Though this information comes directly from Amazon customer reviews, no details on how long the fan runs on 6 d-batteries are listed by the product’s manufacturer. That said, most consumers agree that its quite energy-efficient compared to other, similarly priced portable fans.

Highly-rated camper favorite

With hundreds of 5-star ratings, the O2COOL 10-inch Treva Portable Fan gets a big thumbs up from other consumers. Reviews on Amazon confirm that though it’s quite compact, it certainly packs a punch. One reviewer mentioned the fan felt as cool as air conditioning when spending multiple hot days camping in 105-degree heat and high humidity. Others praise it for its value, easy setup, and the option to either use it battery-powered or directly plugged into a power outlet.

There are some cons. Firstly, you can’t mount it to the ceiling of a tent. Secondly, some reviewers mention the 5-inch blade design is a tad on the small side to fully promote airflow through larger tents. Also, with merely two adjustable speed settings (and no additional features such as an LED light) it’s quite the basic personal fan compared to multi-functional options. That said if you’re looking for a highly-rated, high-quality, small fan that effectively allows you to keep your cool. You can’t get much better than the affordable O2COOL 10-inch Treva Portable Fan.

Pro

  • Hybrid, dual power sources
  • Can be used on 6 D-cell batteries
  • Can be used via AC-adapter
  • Compact
  • The fan can be tilted to adjust airflow
  • Built-in carry handle

Con

  • A bit heavy at 2.55 pounds
  • Not suited for larger tents
  • Only works as a freestanding unit

Verdict

Each option on this Best Camping Fan overview is a solid choice that delivers real value at affordable pricing. Which one is ‘the best’ depends on where and when you plan to use the fan. And how much functionality or extra features you require. For example, if you want a fan that can be used as both a hanging fan in your tent, as well as mounted as a freestanding unit, the Odoland Portable Fan & LED Lantern could be your match. Not only does this fan provide great airflow, but the built-in LED lantern feature means it comes with double the functionality.

That said, maybe you’re simply looking for a camping fan without fancy LED or nightlight features. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with going back to basics, as the O2COOL 10-inch Treva Portable Fan demonstrates. Simple in design, powerful in ventilation, and durable in construction: excuse the pun, but we’re a fan.

If minimizing on packing weight is your priority, the OPOLAR Portable Rechargeable Mini Fan ticks the box. Weighing just 7oz and with dimensions similar to a smartphone, it’s an ultralight and ultra-compact choice for backpackers. Yes, you’ll have to compromise a bit on power of the airflow, but we think its a fair trade-off for the amount of packing space you’ll save.

Don’t worry, whichever fan you choose from the overview, there are no bad choices. We’ve ensured that every product is highly-rated by other consumers and scores top-marks on value-for-money and ease-of-use.

If we had to pick a favorite from the 3 fans in our overview, we’d go for the Odoland Portable Fan & LED Lantern. It’s 2-in-1 functionality appeal to us, and so does its super affordable pricing. We love reading in our tent at night, so the additional LED lantern feature of the fan is a big attraction. Use the light and fan together, or separately, and mix and match features based on your camping needs.

We also rate the option to use this fan as a hanging fan, or as a freestanding unit, highly. This makes it more versatile and suited to every outdoor scenario. Need to promote airflow in your tent? Hang it in the center of your tent within seconds using the easy hook attached to the fan. Sitting outside your tent and in need of a cooling breeze? Place it on a camping table using its freestanding base. Just like the functionality, the placement possibilities are simply doubled by the clever design.

Functional, versatile, durable, and affordable: the Odoland Portable Fan & LED Lantern is a camping gadget we’d recommend to any outdoor enthusiasts. And we’re pretty certain its bright illumination and delightful fan will make you a happy camper indeed!

Best Camping Fan – Buying Guide

If you’re shopping for a camping fan, there are a few important buying factors to take into consideration, such as the type of fan, its size and weight, and the noise level. Getting educated on these factors helps you narrow down your search area. And makes it easier to find the perfect fan for your needs. Below, we’re highlighting the most important factors with a quick description of what they entitle. Read up on the basics, and let us guide you towards the best camping fan for your outdoor adventures!

Type

Generally, camping fans can be divided into two types: hanging fans, and free-standing fans. Each type has its pros and cons, and which is the ‘best’ depends on where and when you’re going to use the fan.

A hanging fan has similar functionality to classic ceiling fans. These styles come with a hook or brackets, allowing you to mount them to the ceiling or wall of a tent. By placing them centered and elevated in the middle of a tent, they provide excellent airflow and circulation. Helping distribute the cool air throughout the tent’s shell. A con is that some tent types are less compatible with hanging fans, especially shelters with a low overhead space. Also, your tent frame needs to be sturdy/stable enough to support the weight of the fan.

A freestanding or stand-up fan is a bit more versatile than a hanging fan, as these can be placed anywhere – no mounting required. This type of fan normally comes with a slightly broader base to provide stability, which you can place on any flat surface. For tent camping, we recommend a freestanding unit without a pedestal. You simply don’t need it, plus pedestal freestanding fans are large and bulky to pack. Choose a streamlined fan where the blades are mounted directly above the base, as this is more portable, and takes up less space in a tent, camper, or campsite.

There are some cons to a freestanding unit. Firstly, it doesn’t quite provide the same level of air circulation as a hanging fan mounted from the ceiling of a tent. Simply because airflow comes from one direction. Secondly, if your tent has limited floor space, it can be a bit cumbersome to find a safe, convenient place to put a freestanding fan. As the last thing you want is to get your sleeping bag caught in the blades.

Power Source

Camping fans are most commonly powered by batteries or an AC adapter. And some hybrid models even combine the two. We’d recommend a battery-operated fan unless you’re staying at a fixed campsite with a direct power supply. Whilst a tent fan with an AC adapter is often a bit more powerful, it does require electrical port access in your tent. Something that only limited numbers of campers have. That is exactly why a battery-operated fan is more versatile: as it works at any location, regardless of where you’re pitching a tent. Plus, a battery-operated fan does not come with a power cord, making it more maneuverable and portable.

Tent fans that run on batteries do differ in energy-efficiency. We’d recommend you to always check the approximate running time a fan offers, as some may only last a few hours, whilst others can last for days on a single set of batteries. It also helps you determine how many spare batteries to pack. As you will be required to replace them regularly. If you want a more cost-effective option, some fans operate on rechargeable batteries. However, the downside is that you will need to have access to a power supply to charge them or the battery pack. Which again, can be a challenge when out in the middle of nature. On the plus side, rechargeable batteries will save you money in the long-term.

That said, we’d settle on a regular battery-operated fan. Because as long as you pack enough spares, it will keep you cool, anywhere, anytime.

Size & Weight

Camping fans are available in all shapes and sizes. From super compact, ultralight designs that easily slot into any small pocket of your backpack, to larger, powerful fans that provide a steady breeze: there’s a match for every camper. Unfortunately, there isn’t a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution, which is why it’s important to consider what size you need. And how much weight you’re willing to carry. For example, if you’re a backpacker or hiker, pick a lightweight fan that’s preferably collapsible. As you’ll want a design with enough portability and compactness to comfortably fit in a backpack. If you’re a car camper or don’t plan on carrying the fan over long distances on a camping trip, weight is less of a factor.

As a general rule of thumb, choose a smaller, lightweight fan if you’re staying in a backpacking tent, or 2-person or 3-person tent. This ensures a hanging fan won’t bend the frame of your tent, or a freestanding unit won’t take up too much floor space. If you’re camping with the family or friends, and have a multi-person, larger tent, size up a bit to ensure the fan is powerful enough to circulate cold air throughout. Plus, larger 6-person or 8-person tents are often a bit more sturdy in frame construction, ensuring even a heavier hanging fan won’t cause the frame to bend or damage.

Noise level

The last thing you want when relaxing in your tent is an annoying hum disturbing your quiet. Now, it’s important to note that every camping fan will produce noise. However, the actual noise level may vary greatly. This is why it’s important to always check whether a manufacturer lists the noise level of a product. And to double-check customer reviews to ensure the fan is as silent as it promises to be. Trust us: we’ve ordered stuff in the past that promised to be ‘whisper-quiet’, only to be surrounded by a high-pitched buzz when we turned it on. Customer reviews on Amazon are a great way to get a clear idea of the performance of a fan, so don’t neglect to check a product review score.

A fan’s noise output is normally measured in decibel levels noted down at dBA. What is the maximum level of dBA a camping fan should have, to prevent it from being overly noisy? Well, that depends on your personal preferences. For example, the dBA level in a busy, large office is approximately 55, whilst that in a quiet library is about 35 (according to government statistics). So, if you’re planning to use the fan in the middle of nature, make sure it’s below 35 to enjoy the tranquility. If you’re buying a fan to use at festivals or busy events, it can be a bit higher than 35 dBA.

Though, as a general rule of thumb: the less dBA a fan has, the quieter it will be. So if you’re a light sleeper, or want to avoid any risk of getting annoyed at your fan, choose the lowest dBA option available to you.

Price

Camping fans are available at every price-point. From budget-friendly portable fans under $20 to more high-end models that can cost a pretty penny. Fortunately, this means there’s a match for every budget, no matter how little, or how much, you’re willing to spend. However, it does also spoil you for you. When shopping for a tent fan, we’d recommend you to set some sort of maximum price before you start searching. This significantly helps narrow down your search selection and makes it easier to find a perfect match.

Tip: don’t be too strict initially, as sometimes it does pay off to add a bit of flexibility to your budget. For example, if you’re only willing to spend $25, set a search selection up until $30. Sometimes by spending a few dollars more than you anticipated, you can end up with a much better deal. It helps to compare what’s available at different price-points.

Extra features

These days, you can buy a portable camping fan that does more than just keeping you cool. There are products on the market with many additional features, turning your fan into an all-in-one camping gadget. Additional features can include built-in camping lanterns or nightlights, such as seen on the Coleman CPX6. A lighted tent fan or camping fan with built-in LED lights can be a great 2-in-1 solution to your camping needs. These styles mean you don’t have to pack a separate camping lantern and can minimize packing weight in your bag. The downside is that sometimes you’ll have to compromise quite a bit on battery life, as fans with dual-functionality tend to drain the battery quite quickly.
