Best 8-Person Tent – Overview

Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent

Sale
Wenzel Klondike Large Outdoor 8 Person Camping Tent with Screen Room, Green
  • Spacious: This 8 person tent measures 16ft x 11ft and has 6.5ft of headroom with an additional 60 square feet of screen room. The family camping tent is perfect for 3 seasons
The Wenzel 8-Person Klondike Tent is a best-selling dome tent that offers plenty of space, divided into various handy compartments. The tent measures 16ft x 11ft, with a center height of 6.5ft offering ample headroom. The tent also comes with an additional 60 square feet screen room: ideal for gear storage, sleeping space, or simply as extra living room to stretch out.

Do note that though the Wenzel Klondike Tent fits 8 people, this is only when you divide them between the main compartment and the screen room. The interior space sleeps 5 adults in regular-sized sleeping bags, whilst the screen room accommodates 3 more. Though we think this is not a major con, it is something to keep in mind, as it can be a bit deceiving…

Overall though, the Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent offers excellent value, as this affordable tent comes with plenty of premium perks. The fully mesh roof and two mesh windows help keep the tent properly ventilation and prevent the inside from getting stuffy. The air circulation is further boosted by a ground mesh vent, creating a pleasant ground breeze. The Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent also offers a lot of space for gear storage, including two hanging pockets for smaller personal items, and storage duffel.

Most importantly, the Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent will also keep you dry and sheltered when bad weather strikes. The tent is made of ‘Weather Armor’ polyester fabric with a special polyurethane water-resistant coating, protecting it from top to bottom. Additional protection is offered by the tent’s double-stitched, lap-felled seams that provide a shingle effect against water. All the Wenzel 8 Person Klondike’s zippers, threads, and webbing are also treated with superior water-repellent techniques to prevent rain or condensation from entering the tent.

Lightweight fiberglass frame

This large tent is surprisingly lightweight, with a total carry weight of 27.3 lbs. This is partly due to the use of fiberglass for the tent’s frame, which is ultralight and saves on packing weight. Do note that a tent with a fiberglass frame is more prone to damage in heavy winds than a heavy-duty steel-frame tent. If you’re looking for maximum durability, fiberglass may not be ideal, but for leisurely fair-weather campers, it should be more than sufficient to keep you firmly pitched. Plus, with a 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects and hundreds of 5-star reviews, it’s quite safe to say the tent’s quality is more than adequate for long-term enjoyment.

The Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent is slightly trickier in set-up than other 8-person dome tents, due to the separate screen room compartment and many guyline points. Reviews on Amazon mention that though a single camper can assemble the tent by themselves, it does help to have an extra pair of hands handy. But considering you’ll probably won’t be camping on your own in an 8-person tent, this shouldn’t be a problem.

Pro

  • Spacious screen room
  • ‘Weather Armor’ polyester fabric
  • Tall center height
  • Great ventilation
  • Quality No-See-Um mesh
  • Relatively lightweight
  • 10-year Manufacturer’s Guarantee

Con

  • Setup can be slightly tricky/time-consuming
  • Screen room has a lower center height
  • Fiberglass poles not as durable as steel poles
  • No interior room dividers

Coleman Montana 8-Person Tent

Coleman Tent for Camping | Montana Tent with Easy Setup for Outdoors
  • Weatherproof: Welded corners and inverted seams keep water from getting in; included rainfly offers extra weather protection. Strong frame is tested to withstand 35+ MPH winds
The Coleman Montana 8-Person Tent offers outstanding value for a very budget-friendly, low pricing. This affordable and spacious design offers enough space for 8 adult-sized sleeping bags or 3 queen-size airbeds. The tent measures 16ft x 7ft, and has a center height 6’2″. Do note that this is slightly lower than other 8-person tents on the market, which means that taller campers may struggle a bit due to the reduced headroom. That said, for the tent’s attractive price-tag, we think most campers will be more than willing to compromise a bit on center height…

The Coleman Montana 8-Person Tent is easy to assemble thanks to its pin-and-ring system. The tent also has snag-free, continuous pole sleeves, allowing you to pitch it in under 15 minutes. Ideal for family campers and groups that want a quick, fast set-up shelter. The tent weighs approximately 22.3 pounds and comes in an expandable carry bag for easy transport.

This tent may be at the lower end of the price spectrum, but the Coleman Montana 8-Person Tent does not compromise on quality and is fully-equipped to handle rain and bad weather. The style features angled windows, which can be kept open in rainy conditions. This means that you can still enjoy proper ventilation, whilst keeping dry. The tent also includes a high-quality rainfly, and the entire silhouette has been constructed with Coleman’s special ‘WeatherTec’ system. This is a fancy term for the various design aspects that are incorporated to provide full weather protection, such as factory sealed seams, covered zippers, corner welds, and a waterproof PE floor.

Easy access and electrical access points

The Coleman Montana 8-Person Tent comes with a hinged door for easy access, which can be covered by an awning on the rainfly if desired. The tent also has access points for electrical cords, which is a great feature for those staying at fixed campsites with an electricity supply nearby.

No tent is perfect, and as aspected, there are some minor cons. Firstly, the tent does not come with any room dividers, meaning you can’t divide it into separate rooms if you desire privacy. Secondly, the tent is not the most heavy-duty. It will hold up well in moderate weather conditions, but for extreme weather and/or camping in colder conditions, it lacks a bit of performance. But if you’re looking for a budget-friendly, basic but functional 3-season family camping tent, this is simply a steal.

Pro

  • WeatherTec system construction
  • Great value-for-money
  • Affordable
  • Electric port access
  • Great ventilation
  • Waterproof PE floor
  • Lightweight
  • Setup is easy with a pin-and-ring system
  • Comes with a 1-year warranty

Con

  • No room dividers
  • The floor is reported to be a bit thin, buying separate footprint is recommended
  • Not the most heavy-duty

Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Deluxe 8-Person Tent

Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Canvas Tent Deluxe 10 ft x 14 ft (8-Person)
614 Reviews
Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Canvas Tent Deluxe 10 ft x 14 ft (8-Person)
  • Made with Hydra-Shield, 100% cotton duck canvas that is durable, watertight and breathable
The Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Deluxe is a roomy 8-person tent that has plenty of space for you, and your family. The high-quality is made of a 100% duck cotton canvas: breathable and extremely durable. To ensure the canvas is waterproof, it is treated with special Hydra-Shield technology. This means that the tightly woven cotton receives a water-resistant silicone coating, which repels water and helps keep you dry and cozy. Amazon customer reviews confirm that the water-resistant canvas shell can withstand bad weather conditions and heavy-downpours with ease.

The luxurious Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Deluxe measures 10′ x 14′, with a ceiling height of 6’6″. You should be aware that this heavy-duty tent comes with an equally heavy-duty weight: 79 pounds. So, if you plan to carry it to your campsite, you will need quite a bit of muscle power. That said, for car campers, truck campers, or as a base camp, the Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Deluxe is a premium choice for large group camping.

This roomy family tent has two large D-shaped doors with #10 YKK zippers, one at the front and one at the back, allowing easy access from either side of the tent. The tent’s floor is a seamless, puncture-resistant vinyl with outstanding durability. The frame is made of quality steel tube poles and steel spring rods. The steel poles and rods aid in keeping the tent stable and secure, even in high-wind conditions.

Large awning and handy storage pockets

The silhouette of the Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Deluxe 8-person tent has 4 large windows with no-see-um mesh, plus two funnel-flow vents to allow for proper ventilation. The design also includes a large 84″ x 78″ awning, plus a handy gear loft and organizer pockets.

A minor con is that the Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Deluxe 8-person tent does not come with any room dividers. This means that privacy is limited. Also, the Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Deluxe 8-person family tent is quite expensive and will require you to make quite the investment to enjoy its comfort and spaciousness. However, if you want a 4-season tent that will last you for years, we reckon it’s worth the splurge.

Pro

  • 2 large D-shaped doors with #10 YKK zippers
  • Large windows with no-see-um mesh
  • Funnel-flow vents to improve airflow
  • Hydra-Shield technology
  • Extra-durable 100% duck cotton canvas
  • Large awning, gear loft, and storage pockets
  • 4-season performance
  • Strap-and-cinch storage bag

Con

  • Very heavy at 79 pounds
  • White cotton can get dirty quickly
  • No room divider
  • Expensive

Coleman 8-Person Octagon 98 Tent

If you’re looking for an 8-person tent that does offer the option to divide it into separate rooms, the Coleman Octagon may be your match. This large 8-person tent comes with a handy room divider that splits the tent in half, allowing for 2 separate sleeping areas. Another perk is that this tent comes with two doors: a hinged door at the front, and a zippered door at the rear, allowing for easy access and/or exit without having to crawl over your camping buddies.

The Coleman Octagon 98 measures 13′ x 13′, with a center height of 6’10”. This extra few inches of center height give the tent an extra spacious feeling and offer enough headroom to even accommodate taller campers. The tent fits 8 sleeping bags or 2 queen-size air mattresses and weighs approximately 46 pounds when packed. The tent’s inner silhouette also includes 2 storage pockets, allowing you to keep your items organized and off the floor.

Just like the previously listed Coleman Montana 8-Person Tent, the Coleman Octagon also features the brand’s special ‘WeatherTec System’ construction. This means that the tent features various weather-resistant elements. For example, the tent’s polyester fabric combined with anti-wicking thread, webbing and zippers are designed to keep you dry. The tent also comes with inverted seams, which increase weather-resistance by hiding needle holes inside the tent and rainfly. Zipper cuff adds further protection from the elements. The WeatherTec system has also been applied to the tent’s powder-coated steel frame. With WeatherTec, the frame is engineered to be stronger and more wind-responsive by using redesigned poles and guy-out triangles to anchor the frame firmly in place.

Solid construction, durable steel frame

The Coleman 8-Person Octagon 98 is a more expensive option than the previously listed Coleman Montana 8-Person Tent, yet both offer the WeatherTec system construction. So, why did we include it on this Best 8-Person Tent overview? Well, we think the Coleman Octagon 98 offers slightly more performance and versatility than the Montana model. Don’t get us wrong: both are excellent for large group camping. But where Montana lacks the option for privacy, the Octagon does come with a room divider that allows for separate sleeping compartments. Plus, this tent has corrosion-proof steel poles with are more durable than a fiberglass option, and less prone to breaking in strong winds. Making the Coleman Octagon more suitable for year-round usage.

There is a minor con. The Coleman 8-Person Octagon 98 is tricky in setup. The style requires a 20 pole assembly, which will take longer than simple dome tents where the poles come pre-attached or use a ring-and-pin system. The steel poles are fortunately color-coded to aid you in setup, but it nevertheless will require more time and patience.

Pro

  • Powder-coated steel frame
  • WeatherTec system construction
  • Large 8-person capacity
  • Storage pockets
  • Great weather-resistance
  • 2 large doors

Con

  • A time-consuming 20-pole assembly
  • Quite pricey for an 8-person tent
  • The included carry case is low quality
  • Heavy at 45.9 pounds carrying weight

Browning Camping Big Horn Tent

Sale
Browning Camping Big Horn Two-Room Tent, Black/Orange
  • Our Browning Big Horn Series is a free-standing tent with fiberglass poles and steel uprights, giving ultimate extra strength and stability
If you want an 8-person tent that truly maximizes interior space, the Browning Camping Big Horn Tent could be an ideal fit. This great tent features a freestanding design with an extra-tall ceiling and straight side-walls, allowing for ample space to move around. The tent measures 10ft x 15ft in base size, and 87″ in center height. The Browning Camping Big Horn Tent weighs 34 lbs. 11 oz, which is slightly heavy compared to similar-sized 8-person tents.

A big perk is that this large family tent includes a handy room divider, allowing you to split the floor space into 2 sleeping areas, or use a compartment for gear storage. Additional mesh storage pockets on the interior offer space for smaller personal belongings.

The Browning Camping Big Horn Tent has easy setup thanks to its unique hub design and steel uprights. Simply clip each snap over the corresponding pole, buckle the rainfly, and voila, you’re nearly done. We like this no-hassle setup, which – according to customer reviews on Amazon – can be done by one person, though having an extra pair of hands helps things move even quicker.

Great ventilation and stargazing

The Big Horn Tent by Browning also offers plenty of ventilation options. The silhouette comes with 6 windows, 2 doors, and a full mesh roof allowing for great air circulation. On fair weather days, you can even enjoy an unimpeded view of the night’s sky with the rainfly removed. On bad weather days, protection against rain and bad weather is offered via the tent’s partial-coverage rainfly, which is made of a durable 75D 185T polyester. The tent also has factory-sealed seams and an Oxford floor with a 2000mm waterproof rated coating, keeping you cozy and dry.

Do note that some reviewers on Amazon mention that the tent’s floor feels a bit flimsy, and though mostly waterproof, can be prone to rips and tears on rocky undergrounds. This is why we recommend investing in a matching floor saver, also offered by Big Horn, which adds durability and is easy to place using webbing loop corner attachments. That said, this will require you spending extra money on top of what you need to pay for the Big Horn tent. You can manage without a floor saver, but if you often camp on challenging undergrounds, it may be worth the extra investment…

Pro

  • Extra tall center height at 7’3″
  • Includes room divider for extra privacy
  • Great cross-ventilation options
  • Oxford floor with 2000mm waterproof rating
  • Straight side-walls maximize interior space
  • Factory-sealed seams

Con

  • Floor reported as quite thin, separate floor saver recommended
  • Only a partial-cover rainfly
  • Not suited for extreme weather conditions
  • A bit heavy
  • A bit pricey

Verdict

Every 8-person tent listed in this review is worthy of your time and attention. Which one is ‘The Best’ depends on where, when, and how you plan to use the tent. For example, the super affordable Coleman Montana 8-Person Tent is super spacious and fits up to 3 queen-size air mattresses, but doesn’t come with room dividers. This means that though it’s big on the sleeping area, it doesn’t offer any privacy – which could be an issue for some group campers. In contrast, the 8-Person Coleman Octagon 98 is a bit pricier but does come with a room divider and can be split into 2 separate rooms. However, this style only fits 2 queen airbeds, due to a different layout.

Another example is when you plan to camp. If you’re a family camper that wants a tent with year-round performance, able to tackle all 4-seasons with ease, the Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Deluxe Tent could be your perfect match. This very durable, 100% duck cotton tent offers top-grade comfort, but also comes with an equally high price-tag. If you’re a fair-weather camper that only encounters moderate weather conditions, you most likely don’t spend that much on a 4-season tent, a more affordable 3-season model such as the Browning Camping Big Horn Tent may already provide more than sufficient protection in mild weather conditions.

Rest assured: every product in this ‘Best 8-Person Tent’ overview is highly-rated by other campers, and comes with our expert seal of approval. No matter which one you choose, we’re confident you’ll get plenty of usage out of its spacious silhouette!

Picking a winner isn’t easy, as each tent on this list has its pros and cons. However, when only considering value-for-money, we think the Coleman Montana is simply a steal. The Coleman Montana 8-Person Tent is extremely affordable, yet still comes with plenty of premium perks including Coleman’s special WeatherTec system construction, an awning, an electric port access point, and a very easy set-up.

This budget-friendly tent offers ample room and fits up to 3 queen-size air beds or 8 regular-sized sleeping bags, thanks to its convenient layout. We do regret the tent does not come with room dividers and lacks a bit of privacy, but for its impressive affordability, we reckon that’s a fair trade-off. Well-vented, comfortable, and spacious: it’s an outstanding value-for-money choice for large group camping.

Plus, a 1-year warranty on manufacturing defects also makes it a risk-free purchase, giving you peace of mind that though cheap, this large family tent is also very cheerful!
