- ►Safe and Healthy --Our Silicone travel cup is not only None-toxic and tasteless, but also environmentally friendly ,you can use it repeatedly.
If packing space and packing weight are your biggest priorities when selecting a camping mug, the Silicone Collapsible Travel Cup Set by Hokono might tickle your fancy. This great-value set includes 5 smooth silicone, foldable cups with versatility purpose. Use them to enjoy a cup of coffee at the campfire, to bring some trail-mix snack during your hikes, or even as a pop-up drinking bowl for your dog.
Each cup in the Collapsible Travel Cup Set by Hokono is made of 100% food-grade, BPA-free silicone. This non-toxic material does not transfer taste and is also dishwasher-proof for easy clean-up.
As silicone is a pliable, foldable material, it allows you to simply collapse the cup to a tiny, flat disk (measuring just 0.59 inches in thickness). This collapsible functionality makes it the ultimate space-saving choice in camping mugs, sliding into your daypack, or even trouser pocket with ease. To allow for even more carry options, the cups also come with a carrying loop made of rope. Easily attachable to your backpack with a carabiner.
A collapsible, petite cup of joe
Now, the cons. The very thin silicone wall of the cup will not insulate your drinks very well. This means your coffee will go cold quicker than for example in a stainless steel mug. Also, the collapsible silhouette and thin silicone walls make it quite unstable, meaning you can't really 'put it down' as it easily spills or tumbles over. Lastly, these petite cups only have a capacity of approximately 10 fl oz, which might be too small for some coffee-lovers.
That said, we still wanted to include this Collapsible Travel Cup Set by Hokono on our list for its super compact, super lightweight appeal. It's not a heavy-duty type of cup, but maybe that's not what you're after. Plus, for the price listed, the set is simply a steal and a great, environmentally-friendly alternative for those that currently use disposable plastic cups to serve campsite drinks.
- INTELLIGENTLY DESIGNED: With a cloth-wrapped insulated neoprene sleeve, non-slip footing, and a sealabe Sip-it lid, this mug keeps hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold while keeping its contents free...
Though the GSI Outdoors Infinity Backpacker Mug is one of the most highly-rated camping cups, this best-seller in outdoor gear is also surprisingly affordable. It offers a 17.5 fl oz capacity, yet weighs only 3.5 oz; giving it an excellent capacity/weight ratio that far exceeds that of other brands.
The key to the GSI Outdoors Infinity Backpacker Mug's lightweight appeal is its material: polypropylene, a type of thermoplastic. Rest assured, the polypropylene used in this cup is fully BPA-free, non-toxic, and fully safe for daily usage. Plus, it will not retain any odor or flavor that might affect the smooth taste of your cup of joe. The transparent BPA-free mug also includes graduations for easy measuring.
The exterior of the GSI Outdoors Infinity Backpacker Mug is cloth-wrapped with a special insulated neoprene sleeve. This sleeve makes it more comfortable to grip without burning your fingers and help insulate your drink longer. The design also features a collapsible tarpaulin handle for easy, compacter storage. This mug comes with a 'sip it' lid, to help keep insects or dust out, plus prevent spillage.
An affordable, lightweight consumer favorite
As one of the best-selling choices in camping mugs, it's no surprise this design by GSI Outdoors gets a big thumbs up from other happy campers. The style is given top marks for its outstanding value, lightweight appeal, ease-of-usage, and durability. Negative reviews are mild and limited. The most common complaints are that this plastic mug offers poor insulation. However, this is simply a characteristic of plastic. If you want a thermos-style mug, choose a stainless steel double-walled option. Also, some consumers report the cup is not the most durable of heavy-duty, damaging when put under too much pressure.
But once again, we reckon that is asking a lot from an affordable, plastic cup.
This highly-rated gem offers excellent value-for-money, great functionality, and we regard it will definitely exceed expectation... At least, that is when you stop comparing it to pricier, high-end options like the YETI Stainless Steel Rambler Mug.
- Durable Drinkware: Snow Peak titanium cup can be placed over a camping stove for cooking
The Snow Peak HotLips Titanium Mug is a premium choice in camping gear. This heavy-duty 20 fl oz capacity design is big on durability, yet only weighs a mere 3oz, making it an ultralight favorite amongst outdoor enthusiasts.
The main attraction of the Snow Peak HotLips Titanium Mug is that you can place this silhouette directly over an open flame to heat your drinks. You'll only have to make sure the 'HotLips' silicone edge cover is removed. The design is compatible with multiple camping stoves, including the Snow Peak GigaPower and LiteMax stoves. Instead of boiling water or making coffee in a separate pot, this all-in-one mug allows you to cook up creations without having to transfer drinks to a separate mug. Ideal for those who like it piping hot!
Keeping your lips safe
To ensure you won't burn your mouth, the design features a special silicone padding on the rim of the mug. This removable 'HotLips' insert is made of food-grade, BPA-free silicone, hygienic and smooth to the touch. The mug itself is made of ultralight titanium with outstanding durability and heat-resistance. Do note that the titanium mug is only a single-wall, so it doesn't offer quite the same insulation as other double-wall vacuum insulation mugs.
Nevertheless, the Snow Peak HotLips Titanium Mug is praised by other campers for its simplicity and versatility. Backpackers say it doubles as a handy cooking pot, or storage pot, as it doesn't retain flavors and is super easy to clean. Other reviews say this camp cup is so light, you won't even notice it when added to your daypack, plus commend the cup for being dishwasher safe. Minor cons mentioned is that the 'HotLips' attachment may fall off easily and that this camping mug is slightly overpriced compared to other high-end brands on the market.
That said, negative reviews are limited, and the majority of reviewers agree this nifty titanium cup is 100% worth the investment.
Preserving the warmth, flavor, and smell of your coffee while out in the wild is a luxury that the average mug cannot provide you with. Thus, making use of a high-quality coffee mug specifically designed to preserve the quality, temperature, and smells of your drink for long periods is highly advantageous.
One fantastic option for doing exactly that is this stainless steel coffee mug by Lafaso. One of the reasons why we like this coffee mug so much is because it comes with two lids - one that allows you to directly drink from the mug while somewhat preserving the warmth of the drink, while the other one is a lid with a push flap, which closes out the drink entirely. This allows your drink to stay warm for longer without leaking out of the mug if you are on the go.
The inside of the coffee mug is finely coated with copper, reducing the transfer of heat to the surface layer. This not only allows your drink to remain warm for longer but also won’t completely burn your hands as regular ceramic mugs would.
This copper technique can keep your coffee warm for up to 3 hours and keep beer or other beverages cool for around 9 hours.
When it comes to cleaning the mug after use, you will only really need to wash the inside from the drink that you had used the mug for. You can do that the same way as you would wash a regular mug. The outside of the mug though is coated with powder, which prevents the mug from staining or collecting any dirt particles.
When it comes to sheer volume, this cup can hold up to 14oz of liquid, which is around 414ml. It is also suitable for any liquid drink, including soda, beer, coffee, tea, juice, or simply water.
Which is the Best Camping Coffee Cup completely depends on your personal criteria. Though we're convinced that you can't go wrong with any of these products. However, you do need to carefully think about your needs.
If you plan on heating the mug directly above an open flame, you'll probably prefer a heavy-duty titanium option such as the Snow Peak HotLips Mug. But if you simply plan on using the mug to sit in front of your RV-camper, sipping a fresh brew from your percolator, you might prefer a stylish enamel mug with decorative appeal. Ask yourself some critical questions! Do you need a lid? And how important is the capacity of a mug? And how much are you willing to splurge?
Our advice: pick the mug that most appeals to you and matches your camping requirements. In that case, you will not be disappointed! And ff you need more guidance or info to help you determine which mug matches your requirements best, check out our Frequently Asked Questions section at the bottom of this Buying Guide for more details.
If we had to select the mug we'd take with us on camping trips, the YETI Rambler Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Mug is our preferred choice. The reason why is simple: it ticks all our boxes. Outstanding customer reviews confirm that this design lives up to the quality standard that YETI, the outdoor brand behind the mug, is known for. Making is a solid, trustworthy, and authentic choice in outdoor gear.
Yes, we know it's slightly more expensive, but it's worth every penny. If you want to treat yourself to a mug that will last you for years to come, this is a worthy investment to sip your brews in style.
Best Camping Coffee Mug FAQ
When it comes to choosing which camping mug is the best to buy, you will have to decide which design and what features will best suit your needs. From the size to the style, there are elements to each camping mug design that can enhance your camping trip. The best camping mug will be durable to last throughout the years and consistently keep your beverages hot, so all you have to do is sip and enjoy.
What is the best material for a Camping Coffee Mug?
A camping coffee mug can be made out of various materials, but the most commonly used ones are silicone, stainless steel, plastic, and titanium. Though there are also glass mugs and cups available, we wouldn’t recommend these. When camping, durability and packing weight are key factors to consider. Glass designs are heavier, and more prone to damage/shattering, than other lightweight and shatterproof materials such as titanium.
It’s hard to pinpoint what is actually ‘the best’ material for a camping coffee mug, as each has its unique characteristics.
Silicone and Stainless Steel
For example, silicone is ultralight, durable, and pliable. Its flexibility means its often used for collapsible mugs that take up minimum space in a daypack or gear pocket.
Stainless steel and titanium offer outstanding durability and are shatterproof. Stainless steel is often corrosion-proof, making it low-maintenance and suitable for all kinds of camping conditions. Some manufacturers give their stainless steel camping mugs a chic enamel coating. The enamel layer not only protects the steel against scratches or abrasions but also makes the mug more stylish and decorative. The result is functional cups that are both durable, and Instagram-worthy, with big gift-appeal for the camping lover in your life.
Titanium and Plastic
Besides being super durable, titanium is also one of the most lightweight materials. These ultralight mugs won’t weigh down your bag and are ideal for hikers and backpackers. Titanium mugs might be slightly pricier than regular stainless steel mugs, but if weight is a bit factor for you, we guarantee they are worth the extra money for their lightweight convenience.
Plastic camping mugs are the most basic choice in camping gear. Great for those on a very restricted budget, plastic mugs are the cheapest option around. However, we wouldn’t recommend this material for your camping coffee mugs. Firstly, plastic often lacks the insulation properties to keep your drinks hot for extended periods. Secondly, plastic may transfer flavor to your drinks, adding a bit of an unnatural, chemical taste to your coffee. Plastic cups and mugs might suffice for a big bonfire party, but for full enjoyment, we’d recommend you to save up and splurge on a quality cup to enjoy your coffee in style.
Do I need a Camping Coffee Mug with insulation?
An insulated mug is an option, not a necessity. That said, we’d always go for an insulated option if hard-pressed, simply because it offers more functionality. Which is also why most products in our Best Camping Mug overview offer outstanding insulation properties.
Camping mugs with built-in insulation help keep your drinks piping hot, or chilled, for hours. The type of insulation technique differs, but most mugs use a ‘double-wall construction’. What this means is that your product is essentially a mug, within a mug. In-between the two ‘mugs’ there is an air pocket or vacuum. This air pocket or vacuum slows down the transfer of heat from the inner mug to the outer mug and your hand. Even if you don’t fully understand the technique, the main thing to note is that double-walled insulation works a treat. And it is definitely worth the splurge to ensure your coffee, hot chocolate, or tea doesn’t go lukewarm before you’ve had a chance to enjoy it at the campfire, or on the go!
The double-walled insulation works the same with cool drinks, slowing down the transfer of coldness and keeping your refreshments chilled longer.
What is the best size for a Camping Coffee Mug?
That is completely up to you! Camping mugs come in all shapes and sizes, from petite 10 fl oz enamel cups to very large, 40fl oz thermos flasks. Generally speaking, most designs will be around a 20fl oz capacity, but it’s completely up to you if you want to size-up, or size-down.
/For us, anywhere between 14 fl oz and 20 fl oz is the sweet spot. These mugs, tumblers, or flask are large enough to serve a decently sized cup of joe, but also compact enough so they don’t take up too much space in your pack. That said, it also depends where you plan on using your mug. If it’s only for campsite usage, and you have the option to refill it instantly, a smaller 10 or 12 fl oz enamel mug is also a great option.
However, if you plan to take your coffee with you on a hike or backpacking, and can’t refill on the go, a larger 20fl oz would be better suited. And possibly prevent any unwanted caffeine withdrawal symptoms (we speak from grumpy experience…)
Does a Camping Coffee Mug need to have a lid?
Again, this depends on where you plan to use the mug. A camping cup with a lid does offer extra functionality. For example, a lid can make a cup ‘travel proof’ and airtight, allowing you to take your coffee on the go. Another perk is that a lid can keep out insects and dust. And some lids also help keep your drinks better insulated against heat or cold.
We’d select a mug that can be enjoyed both with a lid on, and a lid off, giving you options, instead of forcing you to sip through a tiny hole. And a ‘flip-straw’ lid may sound fancy, but do you want to sip your coffee like a fountain drink? Simply ask yourself where and when you plan to use the mug, and if a lid would indeed come handy. Don’t fall for elaborate product descriptions or marketing ploys. Sometimes less is more. Settle on the lid functionality you actually need, not the functionality outdoor brands try to convince you you need.
Should I only consider the Camping Coffee Mugs in your overview?
No, of course, you should keep all your options open. However, we have tried to guide you towards the Top 5 products according to our expert opinion. We know you’d rather spend your time exploring the great outdoors, instead of buying stuck behind a computer, tablet, or phone browsing the internet for mugs. To help you save time and effort, we’ve simply made a selection of the top-rated options based on various factors including price, capacity, weight, insulation ability, style, and brand. We’re wanted to include a mug for every type of preference, and that’s why we’ve included silicone cups, titanium mug, double-walled stainless steel options, and enamel-coated designs: as these are the main type of camping mugs on the internet.
That said, when we were narrowing down our selection, there were a couple of other top-scores that just didn’t make our cut. Not because they lack quality, functionality, or value, but simply because we didn’t want to feature 5 solely stainless steel options, or 5 high-end, slightly pricey options, etc. That is why we chose to omit some other real contenders for the Best Camping Mug title. If you want more options, we’d also recommend you to consider the following 5 products:
- MiiR Insulated Camp Coffee Cup
- Stanley Tough-to-Tip Admiral's Mug
- GSI Outdoors Pioneer Enamelware Cup
- Sea To Summit Delta Insulation Mug
- Hydro Flask Insulated Travel Coffee Mug
